Ballot on the Vaddukoddai Resolution:
The statement for the ballot conducted among Eelam Tamils in Great Britain to find out the present validity of the political fundamentals of the Vaddukoddai Resolution, declared by all Tamil Political parties in 1976 and was endorsed by the Tamils in the 1977 General election in the Island of Sri Lanka.
“I aspire for the formation of the independent and sovereign state of Tamil Eelam in the North and East territory of the island of Sri Lanka on the basis that the Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka make a distinct nation, have a traditional homeland and have the right to Self-Determination.”
The Fundamentals of the Vaddukoddai Resolution of 1976
This resolution was proclaimed in 1976 before the armed conflict started in Sri Lanka. We are conducting this poll to gauge ‘the political will’ of the Tamils in Great Britain, it was important to go further back in history to the Vaddukoddai Resolution of 1976, which for the first time concretely demanded a reestablishment of an independent and sovereign state for Tamils.
The Vaddukoddai Resolution was declared by all Tamil political parties in 1976 after having had several meetings with Tamil organisations and it was endorsed by an overwhelming majority of Tamils in the 1977 General Election in the island of Sri Lanka, which was the last election held democratically under peaceful situation.
We are now putting forward this question once again to the Tamils in Great Britain to find out the current validity of the political fundamentals set by the Vaddukoddai Resolution of 1976 that called for the creation of Tamil Eelam.
